I recently received a question, “Josh, what’s the real benefit to submitting to my leaders, I don’t see a point and I really don’t like it” Here’s my answer:
Most people don’t like the word submit, or the statement: Submit to your leaders. There will always be a point in our lives where we find ourselves under the authority and leadership of another person. During these points of our lives, perspective is everything.
This opportunity to be led by someone can either grow us, or be completely wasted. We choose. As it is said in Romans 13:11- Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God.
Friends, there is a reason why they are placed in that position. We must grab hold of the opportunity to be led by someone as this will sharpen us.
As Proverbs 27:17 says, As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
Allow yourself to be sharpened. Yes, the process of being sharpened and moulded is not easy. It is painful as old habits flake off, and the process of refinement takes place. However, if we allow ourselves to change our perspective and learn to submit, we can squeeze out every drop of benefit from this opportunity.
We must understand that growth is a process and not a destination. The leaders assigned to us can only assist us through this process of refinement, if we learn to submit to them. As one team, we all have our own strengths which are equally as important in contributing towards the shared goal. Each member plays a crucial role regardless of how small, or big the task you have been given is.
Lets change our perspective and stretch ourselves. Lets joyfully go through the fire knowing, that we will come out as gold. Lets submit to the authorities we are under, and allow ourselves to be refined and sharpened. Most importantly, lets never forget “If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities. – Luke 16:10

Faithful in the little means you’ll be given more
Growth is a process, not a destination
Team = family = different ways/strengths to reach one goal
